保溼剂、肌肤调理剂、抗静电剂、抗煽动，易氧化，可溶于水、酒精及丙二醇，经皮肤吸收后，与维生素B6(Pyridoxine) 一起作用，可增加肌肤之玻尿酸含量，给予肌肤光泽及保溼作用，能刺激细胞分裂再生并组织修復，尤其适合熟龄肌肤使用。
虽然 D 及 L 两种结构的 Panthenol 皆具有保溼特性，但仅有 D-panthenol 具生物活性作用(biologically active)，在化妆品通常使用 D 及外消旋混合之 DL 结构。
